Workers are still on the lookout for greener pastures. According to FlexJobs’ 2023 Spring Work Insights Survey, 20% of workers have recently quit their jobs and 42% are considering quitting. This means almost two-thirds (62%) have either recently quit or want to quit their jobs. The top reasons for wanting to quit are poor work-life balance (29%), low or unfair pay (28%), and toxic company culture (27%).
Many of these people might look for different work altogether — the survey found that more than half (58%) are actively considering a career change. The top reasons are for remote work (50%), higher pay (48%), and better work-life balance (46%).
Sara Sutton, founder and CEO of FlexJobs, said she is not surprised that workers are looking to quit their jobs or change careers for remote work options and a better work-life balance. “This theme has been strong among job seekers for many years and post-pandemic, it has only strengthened,” she said.
The survey also asked about attitudes toward layoffs — 11% of workers said they have been laid off in the last six months, and 4 in 10 (39%) are worried about being laid off.
