Speaking a Foreign Language Increases U.S. Job Opportunities

In Industry News by Caitlin Delohery0 Comments

U.S. demand for multi-lingual workers is increasing, says a new report by New American Economy. In 2010, there were 240,000 job postings seeking bilingual workers, and in 2015, that number jumped to 630,000.

As the country becomes more diverse, more workers are needed to accommodate these cultural changes, particularly in customer service. The U.S. misses $2 billion worth of opportunities from business that is literally lost in translation.

There is a need for multi-lingual workers across the entire job spectrum. Even though the fastest growing market for foreign language speakers is in “prestige jobs,” 60% of the positions in this study didn’t require a bachelor’s degree. California, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, and Oregon are especially good markets for multi-lingual workers.
