Gen Z is rethinking their career plans due to market conditions, tech layoffs, and concerns about artificial intelligence (AI), according to a new survey by Intelligent.com.
Almost half (48%) of respondents plan to work in a white collar field, while 32% are aiming for a blue collar career and 20% aren’t sure. But the majority (62%) of those who were planning on white collar positions are concerned about the impact of AI chatbot ChatGPT on the job market. And roughly half (53%) of those who are concerned are considering switching to a blue collar career.
High-profile layoffs in tech are also affecting Gen Z’s career plans. A large majority (82%) of respondents are concerned about the recent layoffs, and more than three-quarters (76%) say their career goals have changed in the past six months.
