Nearly 1 in 5 Americans over 65 are still clocking in at work, says a new employment report. The number of working Americans aged 65 and up hasn’t been this high since 1962. There are two reasons for this: seniors enjoy the work and/or they need the money. Many workers over 55 have less than $10,000 in savings, so they intend to work into their 70s. This employment trend may continue since Congress recently voted to remove state programs that give retirement savings plans to workers.
Recruiters: don’t discount the senior employee. They’re often knowledgeable, eager to work, and provide a unique perspective for your clients.
