vacation-shaming

Nearly 60% of Millennials and 41% of older workers report feeling shame for taking vacation time, says the 2016 Alamo Family Vacation Survey.

Vacation-shaming employees can backfire in the following ways:

  • More absenteeism: Workers may take sick days just to get time off, even if they’re well.
  • Higher turnover: Employees burn out more easily and retention becomes more difficult
  • Difficulty filling positions: people like good vacation packages (even if they don’t always take them); if vacation is minimal to begin with, businesses may not lose out on talent.

Staffing agencies can encourage clients to lead with competitive vacation packages, as they’ll be rewarded with stronger candidates and happier employees.
