Job openings continued to decline in March, dropping by 384,000 and totaling 9.6 million for the month, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Compared to December 2022, job openings were down by 1.6 million.

- Nondurable goods manufacturing (+31,000)
- Educational services (+28,000)
- Information (+15,000)
Where job openings decreased
- Transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-144,000)
- Professional and business services (-135,000)
- Retail trade (-84,000)
- Health care and social assistance (-71,000)
- Construction (-63,000)
The number of hires (6.1 million) changed little in March, quits decreased slightly to 3.9 million, and layoffs and discharges increased by 248,000 to reach 1.8 million.
