Job openings slightly decreased in June, dropping by 46,000 and totaling 8.18 million, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover report. There was an upward revision in the number of openings for May (adjusted to 8.23 million). Year-over-year, job openings are down by 941,000.

- Accommodation and food services: (+120,000)
- State and local government, excluding education: (+94,000)
- Transportation, warehousing, and utilities: (+62,000)
- Wholesale trade: (+47,000)
- Retail trade: (+43,000)
Where job openings decreased
- Durable goods manufacturing: (-88,000)
- Construction: (-71,000)
- Federal government: (-62,000)
- Health care and social assistance: (-62,000)
- Finance and insurance: (-39,000)
The number of hires decreased slightly to 5.34 million in June, down 314,000 from May and down 554,000 over the year. Quits decreased by 121,000 last month, totaling 3.28 million, and are down 434,000 over the year. Construction (-64,000) and state and local government education (-55,000) saw the highest number of quits in June.
