Private employment increased by 233,000 jobs in October, following the addition of 143,000 in September, as reported in the latest ADP National Employment Report.

“Even amid hurricane recovery, job growth was strong in October,” said ADP’s chief economist, Nela Richardson. “As we round out the year, hiring in the U.S. is proving to be robust and broadly resilient.”

The industries with the most job growth for October included education/health services (+53,000), trade/transportation/utilities (+51,000), construction (+37,000), and leisure/hospitality (+37,000). Manufacturing was the only sector to decline over the month, losing 19,000 jobs.

Annual pay gains slowed from 4.7% to 4.6% for job-stayers and from 6.6% to 6.2% for job-changers in October.
