The number of job openings in December crept up to 9.0 million according to the most recent BLS Job Openings and Labor Turnover report, following 8.8 million openings in November.

- Retail trade (+50,000)
- Durable goods manufacturing (+29,000)
- Real estate and rental and leasing (+26,000)
Where job openings decreased
- Accommodation and food services (-121,000)
- Wholesale trade (-83,000)
- Other services (-46,000)
- Information (-35,000)
- Transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-34,000)
The number of quits declined slightly to 3.4 million after November’s 3.5 million. The quits rate stayed the same at 2.2%.
