Almost one in three tech professionals are actively looking for a new job, according to new research from Dice, and 60% plan to find a new employer within the next year (up from 52% last year).

Based on the survey responses of more than 700 employees in the tech industry, Dice’s 2023 Tech Sentiment report uncovers what’s most important to tech professionals in the search for their next role:

  • Remote work and flexibility: 73% of surveyed tech professionals said it’s “extremely” or “very” important to be able to work remotely three or more days a week.
  • Work-life balance: Work-life balance has stayed the same for more than half of tech professionals and worsened for 12%. Only 37% said their work-life balance has improved, which is significantly lower than last year and suggests dissatisfaction with return-to-office policies.
  • Pay transparency: 75% of survey participants said a lack of salary information leads them to believe that the pay will be less competitive or lower than average, and 65% are less likely to apply to jobs that don’t include salary information. In addition, nearly two-thirds said a lack of salary transparency suggests that the company isn’t committed to pay equity.
  • Employer brand: Almost 90% of tech professionals said an employer’s brand is important when considering a new employer, and 72% wouldn’t apply to a higher-paying job with a company that had a bad reputation.
