Private employment increased by 150,000 jobs in June, according to the latest ADP National Employment Report, following the reported addition of 152,000 jobs in May.
Growing by 63,000 jobs, the leisure/hospitality sector added the most jobs in June. “Had it not been for a rebound in hiring in leisure and hospitality,” said Nela Richardson, ADP’s chief economist, “June would have been a downbeat month.”
There were also notable increases in construction (+27,000) and professional/business services (+25,000). Meanwhile, industries that lost jobs over the month included natural resources/mining (-8,000), manufacturing (-5,000) and information (-3,000).
Most of the job gains in June were in the South region (+80,000), while jobs increased the least in the West (+4,000). By establishment size, job changes ranged from -8,000 (20-49 employees) to +65,000 jobs (50-249 employees).
At 4.9%, annual pay growth for job-stayers reached its slowest pace since August 2021. Year-over-over year pay gains for job-changers also continued to slow, inching down to 7.7%.
