Ghosting during the hiring process has become a common experience for candidates. According to a recent report from Resume Genius, 80% of hiring managers admit to ignoring candidates after their initial interaction with them.
Hiring managers cite ongoing decision making about the right candidate (34%) and the high volume of applications (33%) as the main reasons for not responding to candidates.
The reasons behind ghosting also vary based on company size. Small companies (less than 100 employees) and medium-sized companies (101 to 1,000 employees) say the most common reason for ghosting is because they are still deciding on the right candidate. Large companies (more than 1,000 employees) say the main reason they ghost is because a candidate isn’t a good fit for a position.
The probability of a job remaining open after a candidate has been ghosted is 68% at medium-size companies, 56% at large companies, and 38% at small companies.
