
There were 7.2 million job openings in March, marking the lowest number of job openings since September 2024, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The latest number is 901,000 below what it was in March 2024.
Job openings decreased in most sectors over them month, including:
- Transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-59,000)
- Accommodation and food services (-42,000)
- Construction (-38,000)
- Health care and social assistance (-37,000)
- Professional and business services (-21,000)
Other updates on labor turnover included:
- The number of hires changed little at 5.4 million in March, and the hiring rate remained at 3.4%.
- There were 3.3 million quits in March, with a notable drop for transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-49,000).
- Layoffs and discharges inched down to 1.6 million over the month.
