Job openings, hires, and quits all were relatively unchanged during the month of February. This news comes from the recently released BLS Job Openings and Labor Turnover report.

The number of job openings came in at 8.8 million on the last day of February, slightly less than January’s 8.9 million. The number of hires was 5.8 million, and the total number of quits was 3.5 million, inching up from 5.7 million and 3.4 million, respectively, in January. 

Where job openings increased

  • Finance and insurance (+126,000)
  • State and local government, excluding education (+91,000)
  • Arts, entertainment, and recreation (+51,000)
  • Construction (+16,000)
  • Durable goods manufacturing (+13,000)

Where job openings decreased

  • Information (-85,000)
  • Health care and social assistance (-41,000)
  • Retail trade (-35,000)
  • Wholesale trade (-31,000)
  • Accommodation and food services (-28,000)
